‘Femme Fatale’ is a female reproductive system represented entirely by carnivorous plants. The vagina and uterus are represented by a pitcher plant and the fallopian tubes and fimbrae are Venus fly traps. They are all supported by the broad ligament that is represented by sundews, a lesser known carnivorous plant that acts as flypaper.
I have long been asked when I was going to make a female reproductive system, and I was very concerned with how I would portray it. I knew that I needed to do it justice and create something that was powerful, striking, and ferocious. Making it appear feminine was not the goal. I wanted to embrace the theme of feminine rage in my work and create something compelling for women and femmes who may not feel seen by florals surrounding a uterus.
